This is a property that we already own in Nundah, where my business relocated to in 2007. The concept is to knock down an old mechanical workshop shed at the back and use the existing slab to build a prototype Passive House on the existing footprint, to demonstrate the benefits to potential clients.
Project Challenges
Being a small inner-city block close to a busy noisy road, right next to a petrol station, air quality and indoor comfort need to be very high to demonstrate the PassivHaus principles.
This building will include higher standard insulation, airtight construction and will need very high performing windows to meet passive house standards. Initial modelling shows it passing easily.
The existing concrete slab will be coupled to the ground as a thermal mass to regulate temperature.
With business uses already established on the property, there is very little space for outdoor entertaining, but we still managed to get an entertaining deck and BBQ area into the design.
There are thousands of locations around Brisbane where a traditional house is unsuited.
Traffic noise, aircraft noise, industrial smells, even a neighbour you hate? Let Brisbane Passive House design you a PassivHaus to exclude all unwanted noise while delivering the world’s best standard for construction and indoor air quality.
All we need to do now is get it past council and secure finance to build! Watch this space.
